From the February 16th Soap Opera Update:

What Would It Take To
Get Them Back?
Here are the stories straight from the sources!

Scads of money? Hours of screen time? Oodles of time off? We asked nine of daytime's all-time most beloved stars what it would take to get them to come back to their soaps. Here's what we found out:

Did You Know?

Sofer got her daytime start as Amelia "Rocky" McKenzie on LOVING, and had a small role in the film "A Stranger Among Us" starring Melanie Griffith. She won an Emmy for her role as GH's Lois.

Rena Sofer Ex-Lois, GH
A primetime gig to shout about!
This GH graduate has a lot in common with another Port Charles alumni: Vanessa Marcil. For one, they're both involved with men who still live and work on the show. Marcil's love is Tyler Christopher (Nikolas), while Sofer is married to Wally Kurth (Ned).
Another thing these two have in common is that neither spent any time on the unemployment line after leaving GH - Sofer in 1997. Marcil in 1998. And they are both currently starring on primetime soaps producedby Aaron Spelling.
Rena debuted this fall on MELROSE PLACE as Eve, a paroled murderess who - at press time, anyway - was married to Peter, played by former GH star Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco). Marcil is starring on BEVERLY HILLS 90210 as promiscuous Gina.

Will These Primetimers Come Back To Daytime?

Vanessa Marcil
Ex-Brenda, GH

Will Marcil return to the back-breaking, moderately-paying, no-summers-off daily grind of even a top-rated daytime soap like GH? 90210 reports that Marcil is slated to be on the show through the end of the season - after that, the decision is all hers!

Michelle Stafford
Ex-Phyllis, Y&R

When Stafford left Genoa City in 1997, the soap world was aghast. After all, nobody in her right mind quits a Bill Bell soap. Her agent did not return calls to Update, but there has been talk that Stafford was offered a job on SUNSET BEACH and turned it down.

Lisa Rinna
Ex-Taylor, MP

"She's taking a breather right now," says Rinna's spokesperson, explaining that the actress is having too much fun being a new mom to get back to work quite yet. "She's happy being home; there aren't any projects in the works right now," says her rep.

Now that The Place is cancelled, Rena's probably begging the producers of GH to take her back. Jack Wagner has probably made a few calls, too.
