Lowe, Rutherford Take 'Acceptable Risk'

LOS ANGELES - TBS has signed Chad Lowe ("The John Denver Story" ) and Kelly Rutherford ("Melrose Place") to star in an original TV movie, "Robin Cook's Acceptable Risk."

Based on the suspense novel by Robin Cook, the story follows an ambitious medical researcher (Lowe) who discovers a mold which he believes could lead to a cure for degenerative brain diseases like Alzheimer's, while restoring a New England home that is rumored to be haunted by Salem witches. When he experiments with the mold on himself and his team, disaster ensues.

"Acceptable Risk" will be directed by William A. Graham ("The Hunt For the Unicorn Killer" ) and is produced by von Zerneck-Stener Films.

Lowe won a Best Supporting Actor Emmy for his work on the drama series "Life Goes On." He has also appeared on the TV shows "Popular," "Now and Again," "ER" and "Melrose Place." Rutherford, another "Melrose Place" alum, also appears in the pilot episode of FOX's midseason show "Night Visions." Her other TV credits include "Generations," "Homefront," "Kindred: The Embraced" and "Get Real." Her big screen credits include "Scream 3" and "I Love Trouble."

I used to watch Get Real and don't recall seeing Kelly. She must have been a guest star on the episodes I missed.
